Mar 15 – Community Service Learning and Engineering Workshop

Creating Engineering Curriculum to Enhance Learning and Make a Difference in the World

On March 15, 2011, join Bill Oakes, Director of Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) at Purdue University, for a fascinating afternoon workshop. Once a jet engine designer, Bill brings a unique perspective on the value, impacts, and outcomes of Community Service Learning (CSL) in an engineering context. Drawing on personal experience and case studies from around the world, Bill will present success stories that will challenge skeptics and inspire both new and experienced practitioners.

Participants will leave with methods and tools to enhance student learning, identify opportunities, integrate reflection and assessment, overcome challenges, and build lasting partnerships.
