WiSE Mentors needed in the Okanagan

UBC Okanagan’s Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) is looking for more mentors as some students have to be turned away from their mentoring program.

Potential mentors are professional women working in their industry (not academia), for example engineering, lab science, agricultural or wine science, manufacturing, or government research, and available to attend three Okanagan campus events.  They must also be willing to contact the students personally, via email, phone, social media, or Skype.  There is certainly a time commitment and most mentors spend three to five hours per month with their mentees but the program is valuable to both the students and mentors – it is often the mentor’s personal experiences and advice that last long after the academic year.

The Okanagan WiSE mentor application form is at wise.ok.ubc.ca, and if you have any questions please contact Robin Whittall, UBC Career Advisor and WiSE mentor liaison, at robin.whittall@ubc.ca.
