Apr 3: Cancer Prevention – It Is Not Just Your Genes

CIHR and Immigrant Women in Science (IWIS) present a Café Scientifique on Cancer Prevention, to help you live a healthy life with lower risk of cancer disease.  After attending this interactive discussion you will find out that up to 50% of cancers can be prevented.

Dr. Carolyn Gotay will provide evidence showing that a healthy lifestyle prevents cancers. She will name the common cancer risk factors and offer advice on the daily actions we can take to lower cancer risks, from diet to UV protection.
Dr. John Spinelli will discuss how environmental carcinogens and our genetic makeup together cause cancers. He will demystify the controversies as to whether sunlight, pesticide and radiation from communication technology contribute to cancers.
