WWEST at E-Fest 2012
Together with DAWEG (Division for the Advancement of Women in Engineering and Geoscience), WWEST hosted an information booth at the annual Vancouver E-Fest held on March 3rd 2012 at the Vancouver Public Library . The booth featured information on the different WWEST and DAWEG initiatives and how to get involved!
Robotics Lab Tour
On February 7, 57 Students from York House School participated in a tour of the CARIS (Center for Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Systems) Laboratory, led by Dr. Elizabeth Croft and her graduate students. Students were divided into small groups (6-7) and had the opportunity to interact with 3 different robotic systems including the robotic balance platform, Charlie the PR2, and Betty our collaborative lifting robot.

UBC Engineering Open House
WWEST was present at the UBC Engineering Open House on Saturday, November 26th, 2011. The UBC Engineering Open House is a great opportunity to learn more about engineering, to see some of the fantastic research the university is doing, and to meet us!
The Imposter Phenomenon Panel Discussion
Partnering with UBC APSC Alumni Affairs, WWEST hosted this special event that preceded the official launch of the NSERC Chair.
Panelists included Ms. Isabelle Blain, Vice President, Research Grants and Scholarships, of NSERC; Ms. Jennifer Defreyne, Director of CSEL Operations for Teck Resources Limited; Dr. Simon Peacock, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia; and Ms. Catherine Roome, COO of the BC Safety Authority.
Teacher’s Conference
On October 21st, 2011 WWEST participated in the professional development activities led by UBC Engineering for secondary school teachers.
