MAR 12: Women in Science and Engineering Mentoring Event

Date: Monday, March 12th, 2012

Time: 5:30-8:00 pm

Location: Cecil Green Park House, UBC

What is WISE?

WISE 2012 is a networking event that aims to offer female science and engineering undergraduate students the opportunity to meet and network with women from diverse science and engineering fields in an intimate setting, conducive to meaningful small-group discussions.

The goal of the event is for female students to walk away from the event having formed potential student-mentor relationships, and for mentors in turn to feel that they have made a difference in the lives of female science and engineering students at UBC.

The Role of Mentors

Your role in the event will involve participating in small group discussions with rotating groups of approximately six female science and engineering students. At the end of the conference, there will be an opportunity to mix and mingle with the students and mentors. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening, and a parking pass will be provided for each mentor.

Common Questions Students Ask Mentors

The female students attending range from still exploring the countless career paths open to them to having decided on a career path and would like to connect with mentors within their chosen field. Common questions include:

1. What were some obstacles you faced along your career path?

2. What were some sources of support you received along the way?

3. What advice would you give to students considering a career path similar to yours?

4. How have you been able to balance your career with your personal life?
