Promotion to Professor – Getting Here

The Promotion to Professor event will be held at UBC’s Vancouver Point Grey campus.

A local area map will be posted by May 1.

Travel Arrangements

Participants should plan to fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). It is a busy airport, so please allow adequate time in your return flight schedule to get through security, particularly for morning flights.

Accommodations

Out of town participants will receive accommodation on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in a Walter Gage Studio suite on campus. The rooms will be booked for you – you do not need to contact UBC Conferences and Accommodations. Suites include private bathrooms, kitchenette, and high-speed wired internet. Wireless internet is available in the lobby and all academic spaces on campus. Parking and incidentals are not included – you will need to provide a credit card guarantee for these types of charges on your arrival.

Getting to Campus

Parking Information

The recommended parkade for the conference (Fred Kaiser Building) is the Health Sciences Parkade (2250 Health Sciences Mall V6T 1Z3, see UBC map). For other parking options on campus, visit the UBC Parking and Access Control Services website.

Travel to UBC from the Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Taxi – A taxi ride from the Vancouver International Airport to UBC usually takes approximately 30-45 minutes, and costs $30-40 one way.

Public Transit – From Vancouver International Airport, take the Canada Line Skytrain going to Waterfront.

Option 1: Get off at Oakridge-41st Station Northbound. Transfer to either the #43 UBC or #41 UBC buses.
Option 2: Get off at Cambie-Broadway Station Northbound. Transfer to #99 UBC.
UBC is a bus terminus; travel to the end of the line.

During peak transit hours (weekdays before 6:30pm), it costs $9.00 to go from YVR to UBC ($4.00 + $5.00 Airport Add Fare), and $4.00 (regular fare) to go from UBC to YVR. Outside of peak hours, the cost is $7.75 from YVR to UBC and $2.75 return.

Travel to UBC from the BC Ferries Tsawwassen Terminal

When you exit the terminal, find bus #620 to the Bridgeport Station. Take the Bus to the end station (Bridgeport) and transfer to the Canada Line Skytrain, north-bound going toward the Waterfront station.

Option 1: Get off at Oakridge-41st Station Northbound. Transfer to either the #43 UBC or #41 UBC buses.
Option 2: Get off at Cambie-Broadway Station Northbound. Transfer to #99 UBC.
UBC is a bus terminus; travel to the end of the line.

The fare for going from Tsawwassen to UBC is is a 3 zone ticket. An adult fare is $5.50 for 3 zone on weekdays before 6:30pm; $2.75 after 6:30pm or on weekends). Keep your ticket at all times in case of fare check. For the BC Ferries schedule, visit the BC Ferries Website.
