Article: “Cornell Recruits Female Professors in STEM”

The ADVANCE Program, a MentorNet’s Partner, Helps Bring 70 New Female Professors.

As Cornell is preparing to replace retiring faculty through a renewal initiative, it will continue to recruit women in STEM fields through their ADVANCE program. ADVANCE is a $3.3 million effort, funded by the National Science Foundation that has brought 70 new female professors to the univeristy in the last five years.

Compared to professors in the humanities, women in science fields have to go through rigorous post doc training, which can affect their family life. Cornell is continuing to work on reducing gender disparity in the STEM fields. ADVANCE programs provide role models for aspiring female scientists and help them advance in their professional careers.

Please join MentorNet in congratulating Cornell and ADVANCE on their success and hard work! Click here for more information.
