The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is hosting a series of BrownBag lunch meetings at UBC and SFU for undergraduate and graduate students in STEM careers. The purpose is to provide networking opportunities, career skill development workshops and discussion sessions with professional women in STEM careers. On November we will discuss “Career Transitions”. We would like to invite women working in STEM fields to this meeting to provide their advice and perspectives on their career paths and how they managed the transition from school to academia, industry or becoming an entrepreneur. No formal preparation is necessary, we would just like you to come and share your story with us! Ideally, we would like to have women who followed different career paths: academia, industry, entrepreneurs and other non-scientific careers that still require a scientific background (for example, patent law or scientific journalism). After each meeting, we will write a blog post for www.scwist.ca. If you would like to know more about our upcoming meetings please visit: http://www.scwistevents.ca/BROWN_BAG.html
Both UBC and SFU meetings will occur on November 30th. The meeting at UBC will be at the Biodiversity Research Centre Room 224 from 12:00-1:30 PM and the meeting at SFU will be at the South Science Building Room 7174 from 12:30-1:30 PM. If you are able to attend either of these meetings please contact scwist.brown.bag@gmail.com.
